Wellbeing News
We have had a wonderful return back to school last week with all of our Foundation to Year three students returning last Tuesday. It was lovely to see all of their smiling faces as they walked through the wall of bubbles that was blowing on such a foggy morning.
The teachers had carefully prepared activities to allow the students to eagerly ease back into the school routines after such a long time at home. Many of these activities were centered around letting the students reconnect with their teacher and classmates, giving them time to reflect on their feelings and taking time to readjust to the routines, which many found a little challenging. Many were checking when it was time to eat within the first 30 minutes saying they were feeling a little hungry.
The students started each day with some quiet reading and mindfulness activities which gave them time to prepare for the day ahead. A wonderful story that was read with the students in the Foundation and Year 1 classes was "The Colour Monster" https://www.youtube. com/watch?v=W6wIEp-M4tg&t=6s This story talks about a little monster who is colourful because he wakes up and all of his emotions are mixed up and confused. His friend tells him that it's okay to feel all of these colours and starts to help him sort all of his emotions into different jars. I would recommend reading the story with your children again at home and let everyone share times when they have felt some of the ways the monster did in the story.
It has been a very positive start to the remainder of the term with many smiling faces. Thank you for all of the work you have done at home sharing the information with your children about the changes that they would see as they returned to the school environment and changed routines. Change in anything can be at times difficult to manage, however, I think last week was another example of the wonderful ways the staff and parents at St Catherine's have worked together in partnership, to help our students return to school well prepared.
Keep smiling,
Maree
