In Grade 1 we have been doing lots of great learning in reading. We have been revising the short and long vowel sounds and are now learning about the diagraphs, ‘sh’, ‘ch’, ‘th’, and ‘wh’. Every day we practise reading to ourselves and to a partner. This helps to develop our fluency and confidence. We have been searching for words that include diagraphs at the beginning and end and have been recording our findings in our books. To strengthen and consolidate our knowledge of phonics, we have also been using the ‘Words their Way’ program to do our picture and word sorts.
