Reading in Foundation

In FMH we have been learning to point and match word by word when we are reading. The students have enjoyed using googly eye rings and wands to keep their eyes focussed on the words as they read. We have been reading detectives, reading stories and poems to find the rhyming words. We have been learning to read, write, make and say the alphabet identifying the name and sounds each letter makes. As part of our multisensory approach in foundation we have also learnt the signs for each letter using cued articulation. 

Over the last two weeks we have been learning about the importance of visualising or making a movie in our minds about what is happening in the story. We listened to short stories and then drew a picture of what we thought had happened. The following pictures were drawn after reading the stories ‘Mike’s Bike’ and ‘Ned’s Bed’.
