The Science Discovery Dome

This portable planetarium arrived at St Catherine’s in week 2 and had us all buckle up for an immersive experience around Earth and space. Led by Nick, we learnt about night & day, the Solar System, Earth’s rotation and revolution and phases of the moon, to name but a few.

Here are some student reflections on the experience -

I want to do it again one million times. I liked everything about it. I learnt about space and that was really cool.

Sebastien, Foundation

I liked learning about the big rocks (asteroids) and they came so close to us in the dome - it felt like Georgia and I could kick them.

Zoe, Foundation

I loved the science dome, especially the asteroid belt because it looked like it was going to smash into my head. I learnt about the gas giant you should never go to - Jupiter - because of the lightning and the storms.

Aidan, Year 1

It was really good because it was dark and big and I learnt all about Jupiter and the sun. I used to think the sun was just a big rock but I know the sun is a star.

Alexander, Year 1

It was amazing because it felt like you were there in real life. It was cool because the asteroid (giant rock) felt like it was going to fall on us.

Kensie, Year 2

I liked how the Earth, sun and moon were all projected so I got to see what it really looked like and it helped me understand day and night.

Lily, 3/4MD

I liked how we could see into the sun and it looked like it was a real image - a lot like virtual reality. I learnt a lot and I thought it was pretty cool.

Benjamin, 3/4MD

I liked everything about the Science Dome. It was so cool. We learnt about the sun, day and night, the galaxy (which I love). I wish it was coming back tomorrow.

Eve, 3/4JB

It was a fun and amazing thing to do and I recommend it to anyone. It looked really cool and we learnt lots of amazing facts - so many I can’t even begin to remember them all.

Harry, 3/4JB

I really enjoyed the science dome. It  was just like you were in space. I learnt that some stars live for millions of years. I found this really interesting.

Paige, Year 5

I learnt that a day in Venus is longer than its year. I enjoyed the dome because it talked all about Mars and that’s a planet I’m intrigued in. Elon Musk also likes Mars!
