100DaysofSchool.JPG

Wow! What a week we had in Foundation last week. We celebrated being at school for 100 days and all dressed up as 100 year olds. The students celebrated some of their literacy skills they have been learning with their parents at our first learning assembly.

We had eagerly been counting the days in the classroom with great enthusiasm as we got closer to our 100 days at school. The day began with our learning assembly in the learning hub. The students shared with their parents and grandparents the work we have been doing learning about cued articulation. To make our learning a multi sensory approach we use the hand cues to assist us when learning the names of letters and the sounds they make.

The students were then the teachers showing the parents all of the literacy activities we have been doing in class while learning about the short vowel sounds in 3 letter words, consonant-vowel-consonant words. We have been learning about rhyming words, deleting initial letters to make new words and learning to read, write and build our frequency words.

A big congratulations to the following students who received a certificate on the day:

  • Zoe Currie for her wonderful work in Maths
  • Sebastien Laville for his wonderful work in reading
  • Matteo Piccolo for his fantastic work in writing

As part of our 100 days celebration the students made artwork showing what they thought they would look like when they were 100. They wrote about what they would buy if Mrs Hills gave them 100 dollars. We sang, danced and counted to 100 as old people would do. We completed challenges throughout the day. Two favourites were who could be the first to blow 100 bubbles in the courtyard and which team could stack cups in 100 seconds.

The students had a lovely morning tea provided by the families. A huge thank you for the support from the families in FMH over the last 100 days. We look forward to sharing the learning over the next semester.
