PATTERNS AND ALGEBRA

Year 3/4s have been investigating patterns and algebra for the past week.  This maths concept supports thinking, reasoning and working mathematically as students have to extend their thinking beyond what they see to generalise about situations involving unknowns. It is always a favourite amongst the students as they get to make predictions, recognise logical connections, unlock the unknown and analyse a situation.

I enjoy patterns and algebra as a maths unit because I like figuring out patterns. It is fun to look at numbers and try to work out - using maths of course - what the next one could be, the 50th one, the 108th one. This is a quick look at what algebra will be all about - Gus W, Year 4

The escape room was really messing with my mind - but in a good way.  We had to use all the maths we know - division, multiplication, addition and subtraction. Trying to find the patterns and then the codes was a real challenge - but a good one! - Daraius M, Year 4

I really enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt activity. It made it fun to look for the equations to balance and work with friends - Harry T, Year 3

I really liked solving the equations with the games we play online - Leila F, Year 3

I think doing Escape Rooms is a really fun way to learn maths! - Medina L, Year 3
