Addition and subtraction

Students in grade 3/4 have been working on understanding the importance of the connection between addition and subtraction. Students have been using a variety of strategies such as jump strategy, split strategy and front end strategy to assist them in solving the problems. The students have enjoyed working collaboratively together with a range of activities such as Connect 4 that allows them to put these strategies into practice. Below are some quotes about what strategies students enjoyed. 

Alice- I have enjoyed learning the different strategies because it will help me with learning to add larger numbers. 

Dom- I enjoyed the ‘transformation strategy because it was something new that I have learnt.

Abbey - I like split strategy because it is so easy to use. It didn’t confuse my brain as much as jump strategy because I got to group my ones, ten and hundreds.

Vanessa - I really like split strategy because all you have to do to get the answer is group your ones, tens and hundreds and then the answer is really easy to find.
