Dear Parents and Friends of St Catherine’s Primary School,
In Term 1, the students read all about the Buddhist Lunar New Year. Did you know that each year there is an animal featured for that particular year? Do your children know what animal is featured this year? If you ask them and they say, ‘rabbit’, give them a hug because they are correct! This year is the year of the rabbit. Next year will be the year of the dragon and the year after will be the year of the snake.
After the students read and discussed what they had found out about the Buddhist Lunar New Year, they coloured in a picture that had an aspect of the Japanese calendar. For example, if they picked a March picture, they coloured in rabbits celebrating Girls Day which is held on March 3.
The pictures of every student from Grade 1 to Grade 6 are displayed inside and outside the Japanese classroom.
Arigato for reading!
