Supervision Before and After School
Students are supervised from 8:40am each morning. Classroom doors open at 8:50am for students to unpack and get ready for a 9:00am start.
Students are supervised by staff after school from 3:20-3:30pm. Students must wait with their teacher until parents arrive. Students may only play on the playground until 3:30pm if their parent/guardian is present to supervise them. School gates will be closed at 3:30pm. Any students still at school after this time will need to wait in the office area. If you are running late, please call the school office to let us know.
Extreme Weather After School Pick Up
If there is extreme weather at school pick up time, the following changes to pick up will be enacted.
Years 3-6 students wait in the learning hub. Years F-2 wait in the hallway outside the art room/canteen. Parents/Guardians can come into the courtyard under the shelter and collect students from the junior building and make their way down the hallway area to the learning hub. Parents/Guardians are asked to exit down the hallway area towards the junior building and back out through the courtyard gates. This will prevent any congestion in the office.

Pancake Tuesday- Tuesday 13th February
Why do we celebrate Shrove Tuesday? The name Shrove comes from 'shrive', meaning absolution for sins by doing penance. The day gets its name from the tradition of Christians trying to be 'shriven' before Lent. ... Pancake Day itself came much later as a way of using up rich foods, like eggs, milk and sugar before the 40 days of fasting - Lent.
As we enter week 4, I would ask all families to check if they have returned the Cybersafety Acceptable User Agreement for their child / children to the classroom teacher. If you need another copy they can be collected from the office.
This week I would like to highlight some important information from the eSafety Commission about apps your child may be using. The eSafety Commission has produced a fact sheet called “App checklist for parents.” The aim of this checklist is to help you navigate the app world and give you the tools to ensure you and your family enjoy safe and positive online experiences.
The eSafety Guide is constantly being updated. It is a great place to learn about the latest games, apps and social media, including how to protect your information and report harmful information.
Have a lovely week,
Maree
Have your say in safe travel to school – Travel Survey
As part of the program our school will be taking part in a school travel survey. Parents and families are invited to participate.
There are 5 questions and will take 3 minutes to complete. This is a great opportunity for parents to have input into road safety around our school.
Please click here for the survey: St Catherine’s Primary School
This travel survey is important to help us to better understand how we are currently travelling to and from school. We can then plan to improve options for student travel.
This survey will close on Friday 22 February 2024.

GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
By Gus and Lachlan
On Monday morning, the Year 6s caught the train into the city at 8:00 in the morning. We got off at Southern Cross Station and went to the Melbourne Convention Centre for a leadership conference.
The event was held in a massive auditorium with 4000 people and 300 schools. We sat in our seats and waited for the magic to happen. In each session, we learned about the major things about leadership, the sacrifices, the major accomplishments a leader makes and how they can change the school. We also had a couple of games and even TRIVIA! WHAT! We learnt about the roles of a leader and what they do to make the school a better place. We brainstormed ideas in our little leadership booklet about how we could help make positive changes to our school.
Then, on the way back we walked to Southern Cross in the heat. We were back at Moorabbin Station by 3pm, some people were picked up, but others had to walk back in the heat. On the whole the experience was fun and a great learning experience for everyone. We found it enjoyable and exciting.
Just a reminder that hats are to be worn while students are outside during Term 1
