Welcome to Term 4
It was lovely to return to work last week to be greeted by happy, smiling faces from students, staff and families. I’m feeling well rested and refreshed after travelling around Italy, Greece and Germany. I’m excited to be Leading the St Catherine’s community in Term 4 and look forward to the many events throughout the term. A big thank you to Megan and Maree for their exceptional leadership while I was away. I know I left the school in very capable hands. The highlights were definitely exploring historic towns, sights and beaches. The days always ended with a beautiful meal in a restaurant or tavern. Luckily we managed to walk between 25,000 and 30,000 steps each day which meant we could enjoy all the local produce, guilt free. Here’s a sample of the highlights.

Religious Education / Wellbeing News
The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was celebrated on the 7th of October. The month of October in the Catholic church is dedicated to praying the Rosary. This month as a school we will have a focus during our Religious Education lessons on the prayers used when we pray the Rosary, learning why we pray the Rosary and the stories from the four mysteries of the Rosary.
The Rosary is a traditional prayer that helps you meditate on the life of Jesus. The word Rosary comes from Latin and means garland of roses. The roses symbolize the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Mysteries of the Rosary are divided into four parts that reflect on the events of the Life of Jesus or Mary. The Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and Luminous mysteries are prayed on different days and occasions throughout the year.
In Foundation we have made a small decade of the Rosary to use as we pray the Rosary. We followed a procedure to create them.
Families are always welcome to attend any of these celebrations.
Welcome back to term 4 everyone. Below is the flyer for the eSafety Commision free online webinars for term 4. I highly recommend the first webinar Supporting healthy tech use as your child transitions into high school for all of our year 6 parents.
This webinar explores the social pressures, peer influences, and technological challenges young people face as they transition into high school. It also offers practical strategies for navigating online friendships and connections to help minimise negative experiences.
It's suitable for parents and carers of children in upper primary school (ages 11 to 12) and Year 7.

Sticks and Stones
On Wednesday 23rd October from 9:00 - 10:10am Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance ‘Sticks & Stones’ for the Foundation to Year 6 students. ‘Sticks & Stones’ is a live educational theatre performance that promotes resilience, cyber safety and positive connections.
When things go wrong at home, at school or online, Toby’s body goes into fight/flight. He feels angry, frightened and confused and responds in the only way he knows how – with aggression and antisocial behaviour. When Toby meets Joe, he learns to be assertive and respect boundaries. He deals with negative online experiences by reporting and telling an adult, and learns more positive ways to deal with anger: he stops, breathes, puts his hands in his pockets, walks away and talks about his feelings. Toby cooperates with other kids to create a circus routine with acrobatics and juggling.
‘Sticks & Stones’ is part of our student wellbeing curriculum and has been developed by teachers and psychologists. This exciting live theatre experience provides students with practical social and emotional skills, and encourages students to build positive connections at school, at home and online.
Brainstorm Productions is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected theatre in education companies, performing to over 260,000 students every year. They offer a range of programs to help schools nurture healthy and harmonious environments, addressing issues such as mental health, online safety, bullying and resilience. Brainstorm Productions are endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider and listed as an evidence-based bullying prevention program on the Victorian Schools Mental Health Menu. Learn more about Brainstorm Productions by visiting their website (brainstormproductions.edu.au).
COLOUR RUN
A huge thank you to all of our families for the amazing effort on raising $5000 for our school. Prizes were awarded to Matteo, Paidi Aston at the end of the run to acknowledge their contributions. Congratulations to Red House who collectively raised the highest amount of money, they will have a pizza party on 18th October.
Special thanks to Abbey Walters for her work in setting up our funding page and the organisation behind the scenes to make such a successful experience for our students. Thanks also to all of the parents who supported Abbey before, during and after the event.
Building partnerships beyond our school community is a wonderful thing to see and a perfect example of this was the girls from OLSH who came to assist on the day. They sorted the sunglasses and headbands for each class and set up the fantastic course around the oval.
The Colour Run was the perfect time to share with the community our 3 new amazing shade tents that have been bought with sponsorship money from The Murrumbeena branch of Bendigo Bank. A huge thank you for the support from Bendigo Bank.
HOLT ATHLETICS
Congratulations to all our students who competed in the Holt District Athletics on Monday 7th October. I could not have been prouder of your efforts. You showed determination, strength and courage and regardless of your placings, finished with a smile.
A special mention must go to Emma who broke the 9/10 Girls Discus record. Her throw beat her closest competitor by 2 metres. Emma will be off to Beachside Athletics next Tuesday, along with Sam who came 2nd in the 9/10 Boys Discus and Mitch who came 2nd in the 9/10 Boys Long Jump. Well done to you all. That is an amazing achievement.
Other St Catherine’s results.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families for coming along and supporting our Athletes. I’m sure it inspired and helped us to achieve our 4th placing. Incredible.
Thank you to Joyce, Jaimee, Jen and Kath who did an amazing job organising and encouraging our Athletes.
Can't wait to see what we can achieve next year.
Our next Holt event will be the Holt Swimming Sports in February 2025. If your child is a proficient swimmer and is aged 9, 10, 11, 12 or 13 it’s never too early to start training.

A huge thank you to Yr 6 and some Yr 5’s for running this event. All the children had lots of fun as the photos show.
