While it is challenging for students to get away from screens at the moment, experts are encouraging students when not engaged in remote/home learning activities, to spend time outside.
We have received very positive responses from families regarding screen free Wednesdays.
This Wednesday we will continue to provide learning experiences for students that do not rely on screens.

Father’s Day Stall Online
Many thanks to Abbey Walters for her work to get the father’s day stall up and running. Not sure how many schools are offering a click and collect service! We are most grateful to our Parents and Friends for their support. The information below was emailed to parents via schoolzine.
Click on https://awebster652.wixsite.com/fathersdaystall to order Father's Day Gift. Pick up is 3-5pm from school hall Thursday 2 September.
Place cash in an envelope with your child's name and place it in the honesty box.
Home Learning Packs
Like everyone, we eagerly await news from the Victorian Premier as to when students will return to school.
It is looking increasingly likely that students will not return to school on Friday 2 September. We will have the foundation, year 1 & 2 home learning packs ready to be collected by families on Thursday 1 September from 3:00-5:00pm, along with collecting your father’s day gifts.
Staff
I can assure parents that our staff have been and will continue to take every precaution to keep students and families safe. This includes following all lockdown restrictions to reduce their movements, getting vaccinated and not being onsite at school if unwell.
I am very thankful to our staff for ensuring their actions contribute to everyone being safe. Our staff continue to be dedicated, working long hours to provide learning experiences for our students. While we have limited numbers of staff onsite, every staff member is rostered on to supervise students who need to be onsite at school. For teachers this means that on some days they are multitasking, teaching their students online, preparing videos/lessons, correcting work and supervising students at school. Our Educational Support staff are too conducting group google meets with students and supervising students onsite most days of the week.
Remote/Home Learning Survey
Thank you to the many families who completed the recent remote/home learning survey. This week teachers will be encouraging students to complete survey information that will provide a student perspective. We continue to reflect and evaluate how to make improvements to our learning programs.
Thank you to the many families who have provided feedback directly to teachers and who have taken the time to express their appreciation and gratitude for the work of staff.

Supporting children through change and uncertainty - the COVID experience
The pandemic has brought many changes and losses for children, young people, and families all around Australia. There are so many questions about the impacts and how we can best support those in our care.
Join us for this free online seminar to discuss helpful ways of supporting children and young people to manage the events of the last eighteen months.
Thursday 2 September 2021
The content of these presentations is drawn from the 25-year, evidence-based Seasons for Growth suite of programs, which provide people with a means of exploring the impact of change, loss and grief on their lives, and learning new ways of responding to those changes.

Eucharist 2021
Eucharist Family Workshop- Online
6.30-7.30pm Wednesday 25 August
Thank you to all the families who attended the online workshop last Wednesday. All participants engaged with the presentation and activities. The families are now working on completing a poster with a photo of themselves (see sample from teachers) and a candle, which will be used during the Euchrist celebration during Term 4.
Eucharist Reflection Day- Date to be determined once Lockdown 6.0 has ended
Your child will also participate in a student Reflection Day at school. Once Lockdown 6.0 has ended, you will be notified about the new date and requirements for the day. On this day students will attend the Parish Mass ( if restrictions allow for this) and engage in Eucharist activities with their teacher.
Eucharist Family Celebration- Term 4- Date to be determined once Lockdown 6.0 has ended
Father Jacob has kindly offered to celebrate Mass for the students and their families separate to the Parish Mass. This will enable more family members to attend. A new date will be selected once this current lockdown ends. All candidates will be at the same Mass.

A Prayer for the People of Afghanistan
Lord, we lift up the people of Afghanistan to you right now. We pray that you would take hold of them and help them walk through this fearful time. Protect them under your wing and help them feel the comfort and peace that only comes from your powerful presence.
So many people who have called this place their home have been displaced because of this event. Remind them, Lord, that their true home is in Heaven with you. Give those who believe in you the courage to stand strong in their faith and be a strong witness for you. Also, be with those who do not believe in you – help them to see the peace in your followers and allow the Holy Spirit to stir in their hearts as they witness this. Amen
In this time of uncertainty it’s important that we look for ways to assist our students in expressing their emotions, learning how to regulate their feelings and how to reduce emotional reactivity. Today I would like to share two resources that you may find helpful over the coming weeks to keep the conversations open about everyone’s well being in your family.
The Smiling Mind app has launched a digital care package for children between the ages 5-12 years old to support them through Covid 19 and beyond. The packages provide digital links, activity pages and more. Each pack helps the children to recognise and manage emotions, ways to look after their worries and how to focus on the positives. The printable activities designed to be both fun and to support conversations with your child. Each set of activities includes questions to help you kickstart important conversations.
To sign up for your digital care package head to the link below.
The government has released a new resource called “Head to Health.” https://www.headtohealth.gov.au/ This site is a digital platform that has been designed to support people as a guide with suggestions for a variety of wellbeing issues. These resources come in the form of helpful websites, online forums, apps and programs, and phone, chat and email services. The website is easy to navigate and below is a link to a short video explaining the resource. The display has helpful head to health topic pages including Covid 19 support, supporting yourself and supporting others and other areas.
Another resource on the site is Sam the Chatbot. Sam is a robot that allows you to write a brief description of any issue you might need support with. Sam will provide you with further options and you move through the process. The link below is a quick explanation of our Sam the Chatbot can assist and support people.
I hope some of this information has been helpful in assisting you with resources to promote the wellbeing of everyone in your family.
Take care & stay safe,
Maree
During our Google Meets we have been reading the story of “Flat Stanley” by Jeff Brown. Now that we have finished the book we are doing a Flat Stanley project. All of the students in 1MH have created their own Flat Stanley and like in the book they have posted him to some family and friends. We have asked them to take photos of Stanley during his visit before posting him back. When he returns we are going to map all of the places Flat Stanley has visited. We can’t wait to see where he goes and what he gets up to on his journey.
In response to the extended lockdown, we have added the temporary option for parents to select home delivery when placing their Book Club orders. This option will enable them to place and receive orders while their children are undertaking learning at home.
Parents will be provided with the option to select either school or home delivery for any new Book Club Orders they place. The order default is to the school address, so your parents must choose the home delivery option on the order summary page.
Please note:
- The home delivery option can be selected by parents at the time of ordering at a cost of $7.50. Your school will still earn 10% in Scholastic Rewards on home delivery orders.
- School deliveries will still be sent to the school once you submit the order.
- You will still need to submit orders to have existing orders despatched to the school.
You can promote the catalogue and delivery options to your classes online via your social media and online learning platforms with this image. This will help give your students access to great books and resources while they're at home.
Book Club is a fun and convenient way of bringing the best in children's literature into your school, whilst also helping to bridge the important class-to-home reading gap.
Check out our website here where we will continue to add more information, downloads, tools,
and resources to help you.
