Thank you
Congratulations to all our students for the way in which they have adapted to learning from home. Teachers are regularly monitoring students’ work and are very pleased with how the students have engaged in learning. Thank you to the many parents who have given positive and helpful feedback to teachers regarding the structure and delivery of remote/home learning. All reports suggest that parents are doing an amazing job of facilitating their child’s/childrens’ learning at home. While it is still early days we have made a great start.
Some key messages about Home/Remote Learning:
- Your child’s teacher is still teaching your child
- Parents are facilitating the learning from home: by ensuring students have a place to work, encouraging students to complete and upload assigned tasks, supporting students to access and interpret learning requirements
- Remain positive (even if things go astray)
- Be flexible
- Contact class teacher if you have queries
- Encourage your child to problem solve
- The amount of work students produce may vary from student to student
I would like to acknowledge and thank our staff who have in a very short time frame rolled out a very different delivery of our term 2 curriculum. Each day I have logged into See-Saw or Google Classrooms to take a look at students’ learning. Our teaching staff have embraced the challenges of our current situation and are working tirelessly to ensure our students remain connected to school and to their learning.

Supervising Students Onsite at School
The Victorian Government and the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV) have been clear with their instructions to schools. All children who can learn at home must learn from home - with exceptions only in limited circumstances.
St Catherine's will offer onsite learning only to children of parents who cannot work from home and vulnerable students without access to a suitable learning environment at home. We will offer supervision only to students who qualify under these criteria.
- Children who are not able to be supervised at home and on days when no other arrangements can be made.
- Vulnerable children in out-of-home care – children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm.
- Children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service, mental health or other health service, and children with a disability).
School staff have been instructed to work from home, unless supervising students onsite at school.
Staff have been placed on a roster to supervise students who are onsite at school. This roster is subject to change. There will be some days that your child’s teacher may not respond to emails or assess student work during the day as they could be supervising students at school.

I hope everyone has had a restful weekend after such a busy and different way to start term two. It is so important, as the term continues, that we look after our mental health as well as the health of those in our care. Trying to find a balance in our lives sometimes when we are confronted with change, can affect several areas: sleep, appetite, anxiety and so much more.
There are several apps and websites that provide guided meditation and activities on mindfulness. One app that is recommended by Beyond Blue is Smiling minds. It is a great app that you can download for free that provides meditations for adults, kids, families and for the workplace. You might like to download the app and take some time each day for yourself or use it with your child/ children.
Go to www.smilingmind.com.au or visit the App Store: Smiling Mind

Dear Families and Friends,
I hope this finds you and your family safe and well and managing to juggle learning at home, family and work commitments.
I am sure you will agree that the educators at St Catharine’s are doing an amazing job during this time of uncertainty and change. I would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge them for the hard work and long hours they are doing to support our children and us with home learning.
In these unprecedented times it is more important than ever that we, as a community, support each other. While we can’t be together in person, I am sure many of you are connecting via social media and video chats. We will be distributing email and phone contact lists this week to each class to ensure you have everyone’s contact details. I have also developed a survey for you to complete that will help me know how best the P&F can support the school community. I would appreciate you completing it. It should only take about 7 minutes. Please follow the link below to complete it. All completed surveys will go in to the draw to win a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates.
Due to restrictions, all parents and friends activities this term eg; Mothers' Day stall will not go ahead.

I hope you all stay healthy and safe, please reach out if you need support.
Take Care,
