COVID Restrictions
Our school is currently following MACS Operational Guidelines for schools which affects a number of events, programs and general operations of school activities. I thank parents, students and families for their understanding in regards to events being cancelled, rescheduled or modified. We are all becoming very resilient and adaptable to an environment of constant disruption.
Parents are encouraged to drop off and pick up their children on the asphalt and only enter school buildings if necessary. Adults are asked to leave school premises promptly and not to congregate near entry and exit points.
Parent/Teacher/Student Meetings
These meetings will take place online on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 August. Teachers will email parents a google meet link for their meeting. If you have not made a meeting time please contact your child’s teacher to organise. Students are required to attend these meetings.
Learning
Learning back onsite at school has been positive, with students engaging in lots of hands-on activities with their peers. Many classes are delving into their inquiry and science concepts- Cause and Effect. Classes are exploring math measurement concepts linking this to the Olympics.
All classes have connected back into structured Literacy and Numeracy learning, with teachers focussing on explicit teaching of skills in these areas.
Remote Learning Survey
I encourage one parent from each family to complete the Remote Learning Survey. ( see link below) It is important to us that we gather and collate data from our parents, to ensure we can continue to deliver future remote learning in a format that supports students and families.
Changes to the Sacrament of Eucharist
Due to the current COVID restrictions, we have modified some aspects of the Eucharist program. In consultation with the Parish, it has been decided to go ahead with the Presentation Mass on the 8 August at 10:30am and the Eucharist celebration on 15 August at 10:30am. At this stage, one parent will be able to accompany their child to the Presentation Mass on the 8 August. We plan to go ahead with the Eucharist Celebration on 15 August with two family members able to attend with their child. Please book on the Thursday before each mass to register your attendance. Please book using the following link.
Dress Code: It is no longer a requirement for girl’s to wear white dresses- it is optional. Please choose clothing appropriate for church.
8th Aug Mass: Bookings open Thursday, 5th August at 6pm
St. Catherine’s - https://www.trybooking.com/BTGZX
15th Aug: Bookings will open Thu,12th August @6pm
St Catherine’s- https://www.trybooking.com/BTHZXH
If restrictions for the Eucharist Celebration on the 15 August ease, we will be able to increase the number of family members in attendance.
We plan to hold the family Eucharist workshops online on Wednesday 11 August at 7:00pm. Attendance at this workshop is part of the preparation for your child’s Eucharist. At least one parent and your child will need to attend this workshop. A resource pack for the workshop will be sent home with your child the day before. A google meet link will be sent to your email address the day before the workshop. Please email carmel.donlon@scmoorabbin.catholic.edu.au if you have any issues with the google meet link.
On the night you will be asked to participate in prayer and activities with your child. We will also give you further information about the Eucharist celebration.
Your child will also participate in a student reflection day on Wednesday 11 August. On this day students will attend the Parish Mass ( if restrictions allow for this) and engage in Eucharist activities with their teacher.
Please contact me, or your child’s classroom teacher should you have any further questions.
Traditionally the school provides a special lunch celebration for the Eucharitst candidates on the Student Reflection Day, however this is not possible at the moment with the COVID restrictions. We plan to organise a special lunch for the candidates at another time, later in the term.

The Year 2 students have been busy exploring chemical science for our Term 3 concept, ‘Cause and Effect’. Students have been looking at how ingredients and materials can be mixed together and physically change. So far, students have conducted experiments to make jelly and lemon volcanoes. They have also been practising their writing skills to write procedures about how to do the experiments.
