RECONCILIATION REFLECTION DAY-
‘A Change of Heart”
Wednesday 3rd March
St Catherine’s School & Church
On Wednesday 3rd MARCH ALL of the Year 3 & 4 students were involved in the Reconciliation Reflection Day at St. Catherine’s. This day was led by Megan Moore and myself (Religious Education Leader). We were amazed at the level of engagement by the students. They responded to the activities with honesty and wonderment. The students had opportunities to pray, reflect, study Gospel stories relating to healing and forgiveness. The students also had the opportunity to make a ’Healing Heart’ canvas which will be displayed when they make their Reconciliation during Terms 2 and 3. The students also wrote their own ‘Prayers of Sorrow’. After a very busy morning the students enjoyed a shared lunch in the school vegie garden.

St Catherine’s Church
The students and their families are invited to attend Parish Mass on Sunday, 18th April. The students will be introduced to the Parish Community and receive a candle from the Parish to use during their Reconciliation during Term 2 or 3.
2021 Caritas Project Compassion
Each family has received a Project Compassion box for donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: lent.caritas.org.au. Spare collection boxes can be obtained from the office.
If you choose to collect during Lent, please return the boxes to school. Saint Oscar Romero is our inspiration for Project Compassion 2021, so in his words let’s “Aspire not to have more, but to be more.”
Please return donations to the school office by Thursday, 1st April so we can add the school donations to St Catherine's Parish Donations. Boxes can also be returned directly to St Catherine’s Church during weekend masses.
The Learning and Faith School Leaders will organise a focus to remind students to return the collection boxes to school on Thursday, 1st April. More information to follow next week.
Week 3 Lenten Prayer
Loving God, You are always with us, guiding us and loving us.
We know you hear us when we pray, and you listen to us whenever we talk to you.
Thank you. Help us remember to take time every day to talk to you.
We know that getting ready for the mystery of Easter is big work.
During this season, help us learn how to trust you, love you, and share your love with others!
Thank you for being with our family as we travel together, preparing our hearts and minds to enter into the mystery of Easter.
Bless us in our work. It’s in your holy name, we pray,
Amen.

This week we celebrate Harmony Day across Australia. Harmony Day is a day to celebrate our cultural diversity – a day of respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Events have been held across Australia since 1999 when the day began. The theme of this day is ‘Everyone Belongs’
Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country — from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. It is a time to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, and the successful integration of migrants into our community. Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. It makes Australia a great place to live.
Throughout the year our classes learn through the Intercultural capability in the Victorian curriculum to develop knowledge, understandings and skills to enable them to:
- demonstrate an awareness of and respect for cultural diversity within the community
- reflect on how intercultural experiences influence attitudes, values and beliefs
- recognise the importance of acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity for a cohesive community.
Did you know?
- nearly half (49 per cent) of Australians were born overseas or have at least one parent who was
- we identify with over 300 ancestries
- since 1945, more than 7.5 million people have migrated to Australia
- 85 per cent of Australians agree multiculturalism has been good for Australia
- apart from English, the most common languages spoken in Australia are Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Italian, Greek, Tagalog/Filipino, Hindi, Spanish and Punjabi
- more than 70 Indigenous languages are spoken in Australia.

National Day Against Bullying and Violence.
Just a reminder that we would love every family to bring along their “Take a Stand Together” speech bubble next Monday 22nd March to show our school communities support for this special day. We ask each family to place their contribution on the banner located in the hall before school. Classes will visit the hall during the day on the 22nd March.
If you need another copy, please ask your child to collect a copy from the office.
Thank you for your ongoing support,

Reconciliation Reflection Day
By Veronika and Daania
Everyone was buzzing with excitement because it was a free dress day! We had come to school to learn about our reconciliation. Mrs Donlon and Mrs Moore - our expert teachers :) - taught us all about the 7 Sacraments but mainly about how reconciliation was about forgiveness and healing. The parable of the Prodigal Son was a good example because it showed the 4 stages of reconciliation - admitting you were wrong, saying sorry, being forgiven and being reconciled.
We made beautiful ‘change of heart’ art. Change of heart means saying sorry and asking for forgiveness. We liked making the hearts the most. It was interesting to watch Mrs O’Donnell help to sew them up.
The sausage sizzle was of course the ‘hubba bubba’ moment. They were delicious - especially because they were cooked with love by our school staff. And as for the icypoles…
All in all, the day was brilliant and awesome because we learnt about reconciliation with our friends.
