First Nations People
This term, Sabine, one of our year 6 students, wrote to the School Advisory Council requesting their support for our school to display more visual representation of
Aborignal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in our school.Sabine made a number of suggestions, one of which is for our school to display flags recognising First Nations People. Each classroom now has small desk flags and we now have a large portable flag display in our office.
We have now formed a First Nations People’s Perspective committee consisting of two students, Sabine and Rebecca, two parents, Karen Glancy and Dimity Hemphill and two teachers, Mrs Hills and Mrs O’Donnell. We have scheduled regular meetings to work on further actions to keep our community informed and to show respect to Indigenous cultures.
School Uniform
In term 4 last year we introduced some new uniform items and uniform policy. Beginning term 1 next year (2023) all new uniform items will need to be worn by students in Foundation to year 5. We are allowing year 6 only next year to still wear old uniform items in order to save parents the expense of a number of new items in their last year of schooling.
Uniforms can be purchased at PSW Pty.Ltd, 1 Age Street Cheltenham.
The new uniform items are:
Everyday Items

Children's Liturgy of the Word - CLOW
Marta Novak and I ran the CLOW sessions on Sunday, 7th August and 11th August. This involved children coming out to the meeting room to hear readings and completing activities related to the readings that are more child friendly. The students came out for the readings and returned just before the Offertory procession. The activities are designed for Primary aged students.
We have decided to offer CLOW once a month during school terms (First Sunday of each month). The remaining sessions for the year will be on Sunday, 6th November and Sunday 4th December. If you would like to help with the sessions, please let me know. I have included my email below.

Year 3/4 Learning Assembly
On Thursday the Grade 3/4 students presented their amazing information reports that they have worked so hard on this term during their learning assembly. The topic focus for the information reports was Australia. Many students chose to explore and research different Australian animals, locations within Australia and even our airlines.
Here are some highlights from our fabulous students about their assembly....
- Nathan - 1st in the Boys 12/13 Long Jump
- Zara - 1st in the Girls 12/13 1500m Run
- Xavier - 1st in the 11 Boys High Jump
- Alexander - 2nd in the 12/13 Boys 200m Run
Athletics Day Reflection
When our school arrived at the track we all felt like we had butterflies in our stomach. For the first race, no one competed, but everyone watched in amazement. Then the field events began, we were all feeling very nervous. When the 100m race came most of the people went. Everyone did really well. In-between events, everyone had some snacks ready for the next races. The 200m race and more field events came. Towards the end of the day was the 1500m. Everyone ran really well. Zara came first in the 1500m.
Finally, the day ended with relays. Everyone's team ran well. One team had a close match and almost made it into Beachside relays.
Overall our school came 6th in the percentage. Everyone tried really hard and gave an amazing performance.
